The flacon in the shape of a glass fist and the name, Only the Brave, create a unique, edgy appeal focused at Diesel’s core audience of young men. But does the scent live up to its own marketing?
Packaging
What most people remember about this cologne is the bold and memorable bottle design. The bottle is a smokey gray-blue glass in the shape of a man’s fist. Across the knuckles is a ring inscribed with the Diesel logo. It’s supposed to be inspired by Diesel founder Renzo Rosso’s own fist.
Scent: Deisel Only the Brave Review
Launched in 2009, Only the Brave EDT was a joint effort by perfumers Alienor Massenet, Olivier Polge (also known for Kenzo Power), and Pierre Wargnye. Diesel Only the Brave begins with top notes of mandarin orange and Amalfi lemon which blend into heart notes of coriander, cedar, and violet. The base features amber and leather prominently.
Impressions
From the name, I was expecting an ultra-aggressive scent like Dior’s Fahrenheit. While the combination of citrus and leather is reminiscent of that cologne, Brave is much less aggressive. In fact, it’s surprisingly sweet and crowd-pleasing. Good longevity and projection, it’s one that will stay on you 8+ hours and people will notice.
Who should buy it?
It’s a fragrance designed for younger guys in their teens or 20s and because of the sweetness, I do think they’re the ones who would most enjoy it.
With the citrus notes, it’s perfect for warmer months like spring or summer. It’s also a crowd-pleaser so expect lots of compliments. Great for wearing casually or to clubs where you want to get attention.
About the brand Diesel
Diesel apparel is to Italy what Levi’s are to the US and is popular all over the world. This is not just a line of blue jeans, this is all about lifestyle and since the time they burst onto the fashion scene in the mid-‘80s, they have taken the world by storm.
Headed by Renzo Rosso, this brand has made a name as top trendsetters and people all around the globe choose Diesel clothing and fragrances for its edgy and youthful style.
Summary
While you don’t exactly have to be brave to wear Deisel Only the Brave (it’s not exactly groundbreaking), it makes a noticeable statement and is a sweetly popular crowd-pleaser.
