What Is the Sage Note?
There are two main types. Clary sage (Salvia sclarea) is steam-distilled into a soft, sweet, ambery-herbal oil rich in sclareol, and is the perfumer’s favourite; common (Dalmatian) sage is sharper and more camphorous. Most fragrances that list “sage” mean clary.
