If you could bottle the perfect summer vacation, it would smell like Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue EDT. The perfume’s fruity-floral scent is refreshing, vibrant, and sensual. It perfectly captures the essence of a Sicilian woman enjoying life.
Here’s our Dolce and Gabbana light blue review, featuring everything you should consider before getting yourself a bottle of this floral-fruity fragrance.
Who Makes It?
Dolce & Gabbana released Blue Light in 2001. Olivier Cresp formulated the blend, a top perfumer credited with other premium fragrances like Yves Saint Laurent’s Black Opium.
What Does Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue Smell Like?
One word that we think perfectly describes the fragrance of this perfume is summer. The first thing you’ll smell is the fruity smell of lemons and apple, reminiscent of a cool drink you’d enjoy on a hot day.
The fruity smell then blends into a woody floral scent that invokes the feeling of going on a stroll through a field with your closest friends. Finally, it ends on a musky note guaranteed to leave a solid impression.
Its freshness and vibrancy make it perfect for day-to-day wear.
Scent Notes
The top notes of this fragrance are Sicilian Lemon, Apple, Cedar, and Bellflower. Its middle notes are Bamboo, Jasmine, and White Rose, and its base notes are Cedar, Musk, and Amber.
PROS: Light Blue is a very original scent. It smells stunning without being overbearing. The fragrance is simple and noteworthy.
CONS: The price may be off-putting, as it’s a bit expensive. You may also need to reapply the fragrance
Sillage: Good. The perfume won’t overpower an entire room, but you may turn a few heads.
- Longevity: Very good. You may need to top up once during the day, but the fragrance sinks into your skin.
- Scent potency/ Appropriate for: The Office, casual outings, dates, and other day-to-day activities.
- Price: $$$
Who Would Like It?
Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue 100ml is the perfect perfume for someone who enjoys simplicity and elegance. If you’re willing to splurge a bit on a premium fragrance that’s critically acclaimed, we highly recommend it.
Gender doesn’t have to be a barrier either, because while this review is for Dolce and Gabbana Light Blue for women, Light Blue for men is just as good. It has stellar reviews and won two categories at the FiFi Awards in 2008.
If you want a rich and mature fragrance that’s breezy and casual enough to be suited for day-to-day wear, we highly recommend that you purchase this fragrance. You’ll enjoy its unique scent.
When To Wear It
Light Blue is undoubtedly a summer fragrance. You could possibly t away with wearing it during spring, but it’s not suited for winter and fall.
It’s also one of those perfumes that aren’t well suited for nightlife activities due to how light it is. We recommend a darker, heavier perfume for your nightlife activities.
Where to Wear It
Light Blue is a very versatile fragrance that’s well-suited for several occasions. It’s casual enough for you to wear in your day-to-day life. You can wear it to your workplace, restaurants, get-togethers, and other events.
The fragrance is also sophisticated enough to be worn at more formal events and places. If you went into a black-tie event wearing this perfume, you would not smell out of place.
Packaging and Presentation
Dolce & Gabbana’s Light Blue has an iconic design. Each part of the bottle is symbolic. Its light blue cap is symbolic of clear Mediterranean skies. The bottle’s study rectangle design represents modern women’s strength.
These design choices add to the femininity that this fragrance embodies.
The perfume comes in a blue box with barely-there white accents reminiscent of clouds. The box has the text Dolce and Gabbana in silver writing.
It’s a fresh and elegant box that perfectly matches the perfume.
Personal Impressions
We adore this fragrance. When we saw the box, we immediately thought of a perfect summer day, likely what the designers were going for. Upon removing the bottle, we were impressed by the simple elegance of the bottle’s design.
The blue and silver color combination works very well together.
Despite having a good first impression of the bottle’s packaging, we didn’t have a true “Wow” moment until we smelled the perfume for the first time.
The first whiff of its fruity-floral scent immediately transported us to the perfect summer day. We can honestly say that it’s one of our favorite perfumes.
Performance
Countless perfumes make good first impressions and then perform badly, but we’re pleased to say that Light Blue is not one of them.
Longevity
As an Eau De Toilette, Light Blue is projected to last for two to three hours. You may need to reapply it while you go about your day to maintain its intensity. It also means that you can’t over-apply the fragrance.
Sillage
Light Blue has good Silage. It’s not overly strong, so you won’t receive any complaints about your perfume being overwhelming, but it is noticeable. If you’re within conversation distance to someone or sitting in front of them on a date, they will notice that you smell good.
Other Light Blue Eau De Toilette Variations
Light Blue received so many positive reviews that other versions of the perfume were released.
Light Blue Pour Homme Eau de Toilette
In 2007, Dolce Gabbana Light Blue released a male version of their popular fragrance. It’s a spicier take on the classic fragrance, perfectly suited for the modern man.
Light Blue Eau Intense Eau de Parfum
The Dolce and Gabbana light blue Eau de Parfum version of the classic version leans into the original’s floral notes and dials back the citrus notes.
Light Blue Pour Homme Eau Intense Eau de Parfum
The intense version of Light Blue’s male counterpart has more aquatic tones and increases the woody and musky notes of the original.
